Welcome to Part 3 of this 5-part series. We’ve been talking about destroying Fear, Anxiety, Worry, and Doubt. But what if we can’t destroy it? In Part 4, I’ll share with you how to get your most important work done in spite of this scrappy little gang I like to call, The F.A.W.D. SQUAD. So stay tuned to Part 4. But first, Part 3…
In the first segment, you read about a mind-shift that can begin to free your mind of the F.A.W.D. SQUAD.
In Part 2, I shared a method for simplifying your business and the benefits of getting down to basics (no more overthinking, no more over-comparing your biz with others).
In this segment, you’ll get the second method for crushing doubt and getting back to growing your business…
Note: I’m not talking about clinically diagnosed anxiety issues here. Individuals with such anxiety issues should seek advice from a medical professional.
Method #2: Put a LABEL On It
Try this: Put a label on everything that shows up in front of you as you go about your business tasks. This won’t take much time, you’ll simply be making mental notes as your normal day moves along. What I mean is this: When you put a label on something, when you identify it, you have more power over that something. When what you have before you is a blob of question marks, evertying feels like the scary unknown.
I got this concept from Dr. Jordan Peterson, a clinical psychologist. The concept is that when you have a goal and you are on your way toward that goal anything that you discover along your journey can be labeled. It can be a TOOL, something that helps you get where you’re going. It can be seen as an OBSTACLE, something that needs a solution. Or it’s IRRELEVANT and you don’t need to concern yourself with it.
Once you label something as either a tool an obstacle, or irrelevant, you are in control.
If it’s a tool, you have the power to do something with it.
Label it an obstacle, and you are in a position to do something about it. Even if that DOING SOMETHING is creating a mini plan just for that one thing.
Is it irrelevant? Because you put a label on it, you force the irrelevant stuff to become and remain irrelevant. Dr. Peterson explains that anxiety occurs when EVERYTHING seems important. By labeling tasks and stuff that comes up (including emotions) you may discover that 95% of everything is irrelevant. You’ll be able to live in greater peace and to focus on just the most important stuff. And, get your business growing.
