Are you doing what I used to do?
Are you going from seminar to seminar (to seminar)? Book to book (to book)?
Soaking up information hoping it will help you grow your business?
Maybe right now you’re thinking, “What a goofball! I mean, this guy writes about going from training to training, but has an image with a link right there in plain sight inviting me to a web class!”
Ok, I may or may not be a goofball… and I’ve got nothing against quality training. So what’s my beef?
THIS is my beef…
Every time I receive quality help, my business growth skyrockets.
But it wasn’t always this way.
I used to get wrapped up in the desire, in the emotion of growing my business (I walked out of my job over 15 years ago, and can STILL find myself falling into this trap).
And when I was in that emotional state, it was easy to want that next THING that promised to move me and business forward.
You’ve heard of people leaving money on the table?
I was leaving education on the table.
I was going from training to training hoping that the next piece of business education would be THE thing that gets me moving.
I ignored my past experience.
I ignored the resources I’d already purchased.
And it gets expensive to keep going from thing to thing.
More important than money
It’s not just about the cash. Yes, this bad habit can cost a lot of money (like $250 to $25,000 a pop!).
I’m also talking about the $20 books and the FREE videos on YouTube.
Because more important than money is the TIME.
And more important than time, is your SPIRIT.
I mean, how long can someone last in business going from thing to thing before they tire out and say something like,
“Well, I guess I’m just not cut out for business”?
I’m going to oversimplify just a bit, here,
but people really only need three things in order to succeed in business:
- They need to know WHAT to do.
- They need to know HOW to do it.
- And they need to actually be DOING.
The WHAT and the HOW are found everywhere.
Plus, they are pretty inexpensive these days.
So it’s not a lack of information that keeps the solo-entrepreneur from growing.
What really tends to slow people down is the lack of DOING. As a guy whose been in business for a bit, I’d suggest,
- Figuring out what you want your business to look like.
(HINT: What GOAL will bring your business money the fastest?).
- Figure out what is in the way… What bigger gaps keep you from reaching your goal.
- See the gap that’s closest to you? That’s your next step. Make that your focus.
Focus On The Next Step
Once you identify your NEXT STEP gather the resources you need to conquer just that step.
If you need a course (that you don’t already have), it’s okay to invest, here.
Or, hire a consultant. I like this idea because you’ll get just the help you need.
You’ll save time from sifting through a bunch of stuff you don’t need.
Then, move on to the next gap, the next thing that’s keeping you from where you want to be (and like I said, focus on what’s going to get you to money fastest).
